The budget will increase across city departments, from police and fire departments to public works and compliance.

Dallas City Council members got a first look at the recently proposed budget. To say they liked what they saw might be an understatement, as the property and sales revenue included a “significant” increase.

McGough told Inside Texas Politics, “We’ve seen property taxes rise over 15% and sales taxes over 11% in Dallas.”

Thus, at least significant additional funds will be allocated to all municipal services. “

The increase in sales is not limited to Dallas. Cities in Texas are trying to figure out how to allocate all the extra money from skyrocketing Texas real estate values and rising costs.

One of the City’s top priorities is to reduce property taxes.

The proposed budget is $4.5 billion, or $160 million more than the budget approved by Congress last year.

He proposed lowering the property tax rate by almost 3 cents to $74.58 per $100 of assessment.

It’s important, but for many owners, it will ultimately be about clothing. Since the property costs are rising, most residents will keep on paying higher taxes on their properties, according to McGough.

However, what we have at City Council is that we expect to cut more than the City of Dallas has cut in over 40 years, he said.

McGough said another goal besides property taxes is public safety, which accounts for the majority of the budget.

This includes nearly $10 million in retention and recruitment with the goal of hiring hundreds.

Other departments will see increased funding, including fire, public works, and law enforcement.

McGough said you can expect to hear lots of talk about how residents should be spending their money in the weeks ahead.  During City Council meetings, they can provide feedback on Wednesdays.
